BIE in the news
Just how big is the interim market? Although still regarded by many as a niche market, interim management is nonetheless expanding. There is some debate about the actual total market worth; a headline grabbing figure of £1.3 billion has been cited in the past... Martin Wood, managing director of BIE Interim Executive Ltd, is not one to mince words and he is not happy with the higher estimates quoted. He says: “The only figures that are available are those from the providers; the IMA’s members turned over £102 million in 2006. Allowing for the additional business done by providers who are not members of the IMA, that figure could grow to around £150 - £160 million. Where is the other £850 million coming from? It can only be from direct appointments, which have been increasing every year as the industry becomes more renowned”. However, Wood does not believe that direct appointments have achieved anything like the numbers necessary to account for the £1 billion figure Extract from the HR Director magazine, Issue 40, October 07.
